Kingwood (Dalbergia cearensis), also known as Brazilian kingwood, is yielded from a small-medium size tree in Brazil, and as such is only available in relatively small sizes of lumber. In the 17th century, it was the most expensive wood in general use for furniture making, known then as the prince's wood. Other woods yielded by the same genus include cocobolo, rosewood, African blackwood, Bombay blackwood and tulipwood.
